Are any of you guys planning on doing any of this year? I am planning on allot of events this summer.
This is where my calendar as it stands right now.
Sunday May 7th Detroit Region SCCA Season Opener - DTE Music Theatre (Clarkston, MI)
Monday May 29th Detroit Region SCCA Memorial Day Event - DTE Music Theatre (Clarkston, MI)
Friday Jul 14th MidWest Expo - Gingerman Raceway (South Haven, MI)
Saturday Jul 15th to Sunday Jul 16th CenDiv SCCA Event #4 - Wurtsmith AFB (Oscoda, MI)
Saturday Aug 26th to Sunday Aug 27th Detroit Region & Saginaw Valley 2 Day Event - Wurtsmith AFB (Oscoda, MI)
Sunday Oct 8th Detroit Region SCCA Season Ender - DTE Music Theatre (Clarkston, MI)
My schedule will grow. The DET region just doesn't have any of the other venues worked out yet. We usually run at the Silver Dome, The Palace and the Vistion plant off of I-94 in Ypsi. also. I am concerned about the Silver Dome. I hear talks about it being torn down. They can tear it down just leave the parking lot ;D
I am also planning lappy days at Waterford Hills, Gratan Raceway and Mid -Ohio.

Al, what are the requirements to participate in these events? Is it just show up, pay, and drive of do you have to do some training first?
What about Gingerman? That one looked like it was the most fun last year.

As far as the auto-x goes all you need to have is a car that is a in good operating condition and a Helmet. The helmet must be Snell 2000 or newer, I believe it actually go to Snell 95. I would get a Snell 2000 to be sure. I got mine at Recharger's for 160. You will also have to remove all loose items from your car including your spare tire. You are also required to work one heat. I usually do corner or grid. I would recommend that you pre register at Myautoevents.com . There are only 200 cars per event and it fills up quick. For a non-SCCA member I think it cost 40 bucks to register. The thing that turns most people off is having to work. It isn't bad at all. It gives you a chance to meet more of other people out there. We are pretty strict on people who run without working. Those people aren't allowed back. The 2 event I went to at Gingerman last year were HPDE's (High Performance Drivers Education). The first event I was required to run in the novice group because I hadn't been there before. They have you sit through a 45 min class where they explain the track, Flag types and driving styles. You will have to drive with an instructor in your car. He will show you the fastest ways around the track. At my second event I was able to register as intermediate and was allow to take the course with no class time or instructor in the car. They cost me between 125 and 160. I am also planning on one of these open track days at Waterford Hills www.waterfordhills.com/info/schedule.htmI went there with the Corvette club last yeah and it was a total blast. We had a day of school on Thursday and and Auto-x on Monday.

I'd really like to make it out to an event but until after June I'll only be able to make a Friday or Saturday event. Seems like most are on Sunday or during the week.

They are free. You just have to put them back between runs so other people can use them if they need to. Although My sister used one allot last season when she rode with me and she held on to it the whole heat. It just depends on how many people are using them. We just keep them on the cones at the front of the grid.
